Mountainboard Pioneer Jason Small Remembered.

“Jason Small was a bad ass rider…of almost anything. Snowboard, skateboard, mountainboard. You name it. He was a natural athlete. He loved the outdoors. He loved having fun. He was super fun and funny. As long as I knew him he was always ready to ride. I knew him for probably 15 years. I don’t remember right now when I first met him and Bill. But they were always up to something. And they loved to ride.

I was fortunate to have recently taken a spur of the moment trip up to Alaska. I wasn’t planning on it. I just barely got his phone number before I left. Called him up. It happened to be the day before World Mountainboard Day.  Fellow Alaska rider Gerald Paul New from Homer flew in on his small plane and we ripped it up. Just like the old days. Find a place, scout it out, and ride it. We shared beers at the Yukon Bar later and reminisced about old spots, old friends and old boards. It was awesome. I look back on it now and realize how precious those 2 days were. But I also realize how great it was to know him for the many years I did.

Jason was true Colorado. He moved to Alaska to ride the real stuff he said. He said “Colorado was a training ground for Alaska” with a wild look in his eyes. You know this look if you knew Jason. He was glad he had the skills he did to manage the Alaska backcountry as a snowboard guide. And he was making a name for himself up there. Certainly as someone who was not afraid to take risks. I thought for sure I would be hearing about this tragic news after he was buried in an avalanche or drifted off a cliff while guiding in a snowstorm. But alas it seems to be the common mishaps that do these kinds of things.

Jason drove off in his truck and I waved goodbye certain I would see him again. Thinking about the care package I needed to send him. More tubes. More tires for sure. He was shredding his tread pretty bare. But that didn’t stop him from riding.”

Friends forever,

Jason Lee

NEW MBS PRO 95!

Rider: Mick Kirkman    Photo: Paul Taylor

The new Pro 95 carries forward all the successes of last year's version, adding some truly original graphics from the mind and pen of Remolition's own Dan Wilson. But don't worry about scratching Dan's art. The Pro 95's ultra-durable and super-slick PBT base layer will protect it while you're board sliding, fakie rockin', or simply tackling the toughest obstacles the trail has to offer. Beyond that you can rest assured that all the tried and true componentry of the previous Pro 95, including MBS MATRIX PRO trucks (with CNC 6061-T6 aluminum top trucks), and F4 PRO bindings (with aluminum L-brackets), will keep you flying high, spinning strong, and winning comps for years to come.
